The energy produced by wind is also known as wind power. It is included in the “clean” sources, which means that it does not emit pollutants and is produced more efficiently through wind turbines. Today’s technology is based on 2 or 3-blade wind turbines, with an electric power output of 200 to 400kW. When a windy area is identified – after the necessary measurements and studies – several wind turbines are installed to utilize the wind potential, thus creating a so-called “wind park”.
Technically, here are some details for installing a wind turbine:
The installation of each wind turbine takes 1-3 days.
The tower is raised and partially placed on the foundations.
The nacelle is raised to the top of the tower.
The rotor is mounted at the tower base (where the blades are attached), which is the moving part of the wind turbine.
The rotor is lifted and connected.
Finally, the necessary electrical connections are made.
The strong winds of the islands and the coastal areas give special importance to the development of wind power in Greece. The exploitable wind potential is estimated to represent 13.6% of the total electricity needs of the country.
Furthermore, the European Union’s policy for renewable energy is greatly encouraging and subsidizing investments for such efforts.
At VTEC we undertake the design and installation of wind turbines in the wider region of Cyclades but also throughout Greece where the wind power is unparallel!
